Acts of Remembrance in Penzance for 2025

Penzance Council has two public events planned as the Parish prepares to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Remembrance Sunday – Sunday 9 November

The Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service will take place on Sunday 9 November.

The service will take place outdoors at the War Memorial at Battery Rocks and will be led by Rev Derath Durkin. The Council is pleased to confirm the Cornish language will again feature prominently in the service, with translated prayers read by Rev Howard Peskett.

Due to essential gas works by Wales & West Utilities at The Greenmarket, this year the Remembrance Sunday Parade will begin from the top of Chapel Street at Queens Square, rather than from the usual muster point of St John’s Hall.

Key timings on Remembrance Sunday

10:15am – The Civic Parade will form-up at the top of Chapel Street in Queens Square, outside the Co-op and Globe & Ale House.

10:35am – The Parade will set off for the march to the War Memorial at Battery Rocks.

10:55am – Remembrance Service and wreath laying.

Members of the public are very welcome to watch the parade and attend the service.

Following the service, Penzance Royal British Legion will be providing refreshments and a buffet at their clubhouse on Bread Street which everyone is welcome to attend.

Road Closure on Remembrance Sunday

A rolling road closure will be in place from 10:30am –10.50am which includes:

•           Alverton Street

•           The Greenmarket

•           Market Place

•           Chapel Street

•           Under Chapel Yard
