The Bolingey Barbarians have raised more than £13,200 during their annual charity day on Sunday, overcoming relentless rain to deliver one of their most successful fundraising events of the year.
The day began with an eight‑person charity bike ride setting off from the LWC Drinks depot in Pool and travelling to Camborne RFC, forming the lively opening to the club’s joint charity day with LWC.
On that ride were Josh Matavesi, Sam Matavesi, David Jolly, Gareth May, Nick Rodda, Mark Etherington, and the iconic Betty Stogs, who travelled with her own professional driver.
Crowds gathered along the route - despite the downpours - to cheer on the team as they made their way to Camborne, with organisers joking that a few pit stops may have been required to keep spirits high.
This year’s challenge built on the success of last year’s ride from the Bolingey Inn to Camborne RFC, once again raising money for children’s charities across Cornwall.
Since forming in 1993, the Bolingey Barbarians have dedicated themselves to supporting young people and families in need, raising significant funds for local causes over more than three decades.

Sunday’s event was far more than a bike ride. Families, supporters and rugby fans enjoyed a full day of sport, music, food, drinks and fundraising at Camborne RFC, with donations, volunteering and community support contributing to the final total.
The Barbarians paid tribute to everyone who helped make the day possible, offering special thanks to Camborne RFC, Skinner’s Brewery and LWC Cornwall for their partnership.

Organisers said the success of the event reflects the strength of Cornwall’s community spirit.
