Festival Interceltique de Lorient 2026 has officially placed Cornwall centre‑stage, celebrating the ‘Year of Cornwall’ under the banner ‘Cornwall at the Heart of the Celtic Sea’.
Running from July 31 to August 9 in Lorient, Brittany, the 55th edition of the world‑famous interceltic festival is giving Cornish culture, language and heritage unprecedented international visibility.
This year’s programme highlights Cornwall alongside fellow Celtic nations including Brittany, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the Isle of Man and Galicia. Hundreds of Cornish people have travelled to Lorient, forming one of the festival’s most visible delegations.
Cornwall Council representatives are also attending, using the festival to strengthen cultural ties, build international relationships and champion Cornish identity on a global stage.
One festivalgoer said they felt proud to see Cornwall recognised so prominently: “I think it’s really cool that Cornwall is being represented and centred in this year’s Interceltic Festival.
"I think we’re living in a time where we’re all very divided and isolation is becoming a real big problem. Events like this really help build the international profile of Cornwall. It helps us connect to the outside world which doesn’t rely on anyone else.”

Another attendee added: “It’s wonderful being here in Lorient for this Celtic festival and it is so important that Cornwall is represented.”
On Monday, August 3, Parade Day placed Cornwall at the forefront of celebrations. As the honoured nation of 2026, the Cornish delegation led the morning procession, showcasing music, dance, costume and Kernewek pride under the festival’s dedicated theme: ‘Cornwall at the Heart of the Celtic Sea’.
