Cornwall's Rewind Radio Celebrates Five Years Since Launch, Supporting The Community It Loves.

Today marks a major milestone for Cornwall's Rewind Radio as the station celebrates its fifth anniversary since the company was formed on 8 June 2021.

What began with just three people - Richard Woods, Jamie Reed and Shaun Ford who came together with a shared determination to preserve local radio for Cornwall, has grown into one of the county's most recognisable and community-focused media brands. 

Over the past five years, Rewind Radio - as originally launched before evolving into Cornwall’s Rewind Radio, has become a familiar voice across the Duchy. The station has attended more than 200 events, including the Royal Cornwall Show, the Boconnoc Steam Fair, and the relaunch carnival in St Newlyn East, while continuing to champion local communities, businesses, charities, and organisations. With Sally and Nicola now serving as Programming and Brand Directors, alongside fellow Director Chris, the station continues to go from strength to strength.

From humble beginnings, the team has expanded from three people to almost 40 staff members and volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes and on-air to keep Cornwall entertained, informed and connected.

The station has also played a significant role in fundraising and community support, raising substantial amounts for local causes through initiatives such as its Radiothon events, the Banger Rally Challenge, and by assisting charities and organisations with auctions, raffles and fundraising events to raise both money and awareness.

While today marks the fifth anniversary of the company's formation, Cornwall's Rewind Radio's on-air birthday will be celebrated on the 7^th October, commemorating the station's first broadcasted opening song "Greatest Day" by Take That; a fitting soundtrack for what proved to be a great day for Cornwall and the start of an exciting journey for truly local radio.

Richard Woods, MD explained "Launching a radio station has never been easy, and the last five years have certainly tested us. From building a brand from scratch, earning the trust and support of communities across Cornwall, navigating industry challenges, and ultimately rebranding to become Cornwall's Rewind Radio, every step has required determination, resilience, and belief in what we were trying to achieve.

What makes me most proud is that we've remained true to our purpose throughout. We are proudly local, we support local, and everything we do is centred around Cornwall and the people who live here.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible team that has supported the station from the very beginning, the listeners who tune in every day, and the many businesses who have chosen to advertise and grow with us over the past five years. We are incredibly grateful for that support.

As we look ahead, our values remain unchanged – grit, fun, unconventional thinking and integrity. These principles have helped shape who we are and will continue to guide us as we grow. Our focus will always be on Cornwall, the county we love and live in, and on supporting our communities, charities and local businesses."

To celebrate this noteworthy milestone, Cornwall's Rewind Radio is also announcing plans for a special fifth birthday celebration event on Friday 5 December 2026. More details about the party will be revealed in the coming months.

As the station celebrates five years of success, community engagement and local broadcasting, the message remains simple: Cornwall's Rewind Radio is proud to be Cornwall's only independent and local commercial radio station covering the Duchy and remains committed to serving the county for many years to come.
