This weekend, brave souls will be taking to the water to help raise vital funds for the RNLI’s volunteer lifeboat crews and seasonal lifeguards.
The much‑loved Mullion Island Open Water Swim makes its return this Sunday (July 12), with organisers inviting supporters to cheer on swimmers and help raise funds for the RNLI.
Run by the Mullion Harbour Group and a dedicated team of volunteers, the one‑mile sea swim takes participants around Mullion Island on the Lizard Peninsula – an iconic challenge that has become a firm favourite among Cornwall’s open‑water community.
The event is capped at 150 swimmers, and organisers are reminding anyone taking part that they must be aged 14 or over and intermediate or experienced open‑water swimmers. Entrants must be confident swimming at least 1½ miles in open‑water conditions.

A wetsuit is mandatory, and no swimmer will be allowed into the water without one. A swim‑specific wetsuit is recommended for buoyancy and warmth. All participants must also attend the pre‑swim safety briefing.
Registration costs £40, with swimmers asked to raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship for the RNLI.
Organisers say every pound raised will help support the charity’s lifesaving work around the coast, from volunteer lifeboat crews to seasonal lifeguards.

The swim is largely run by volunteers, and the team says the event simply wouldn’t be possible without them. The day promises a fantastic atmosphere for swimmers and spectators alike.
If unforeseen circumstances prevent the swim from going ahead, an alternative date of Sunday, September 20, 2026, has been set, with all participants automatically transferred.
