Porthleven Ladies have recorded a historic victory in the Cornwall Softball League, producing one of their most complete performances of the season to finally overcome a Penzance side they had never previously beaten.
From the opening ball, Porthleven set the tone with confident, attacking cricket. Their batting was bold and purposeful, finding gaps whenever they appeared, while sharp running between the wickets kept the scoreboard ticking under pressure.
The intensity carried straight into the fielding. Every player contributed - cutting off boundaries, chasing down loose balls and backing one another up throughout the innings. Those small, disciplined moments saved runs, built pressure and, on this occasion, proved decisive.
The bowling unit then delivered the final blow, rounding off a superb all‑round display that reflected the hard work put in throughout the season.
Hannah Ilsley was named Player of the Match for a calm, accurate spell that stalled any hopes of a Penzance comeback and guided Porthleven to a memorable win.

“They bowled with discipline, fielded brilliantly and made us work hard for every run. Matches like these are exactly what grassroots cricket is all about: competitive, challenging and played in fantastic spirit.
“The win reflects something we’ve been building all season. Confidence, teamwork and enjoyment have become the foundations of this group, and it’s wonderful to see new players growing in belief every week.”
