Cornwall Council has introduced three new No Cold Caller Zones in Liskeard, Torpoint and St Just, expanding a growing network designed to shield residents from rogue traders and doorstep criminals.
The zones - created by the council’s Trading Standards team alongside local community safety officers – make cold calling illegal within the designated areas. Anyone who ignores the ban could face a fine or even up to two years in prison.
The latest rollout brings the total number of official No Cold Caller Zones in Cornwall to at least five, with more expected as communities request additional safeguards.
Existing zones already operate in Penwinnic Parc and Middlegates in St Agnes, Trenithick Avenue and Chytroose Close in Helston, and White House Close and Park Lowen in St Ives.
A No Cold Caller Zone is a legally enforceable area where unsolicited doorstep selling is banned. Signs are placed at entry points, and households receive information explaining their rights and how to report suspicious behaviour.
Cornwall Council says the zones are proving effective at:
- Reducing rogue trader activity
- Increasing residents’ confidence and safety
- Helping police and Trading Standards respond more quickly to reports
- Empowering communities to challenge unlawful doorstep behaviour
