A pub in West Cornwall has pledged to support local residents if Storm Austen causes power cuts and disruption overnight.

The King's Arms in St Just has announced it will provide a warm space, hot food and drinks for anyone in need should the storm affect the area.

In a message shared on social media, the pub said it expects to remain operational even if electricity supplies are interrupted thanks to its gas cooking facilities.

The venue said it will be able to offer hot soup, hot water for flasks and a safe, welcoming environment for residents seeking shelter from the severe weather.

A log fire will also be available to help keep people warm if power outages occur.

The pub's team issued a special message to elderly and vulnerable residents, as well as those living alone, reassuring them that support will be available if needed.

In the statement, staff said: "Whether you're elderly, vulnerable, living alone, or simply struggling because of a power cut, please know that you're not alone."

The King's Arms added that it was sharing the information in advance in case any loss of power prevents further updates from being posted on social media.

Residents have also been encouraged to check on neighbours who may need extra support during the storm.

The message concluded: "Stay safe, stay warm, look after your neighbours, and let's look after each other. Because when times get tough, a community looks after its own."

Storm Austen is expected to bring strong winds and potentially disruptive weather conditions to parts of Cornwall, with communities being urged to prepare and follow official weather advice.
