Projects you’ll work on

We work collaboratively with the Local Authority and the CORSERV group of companies to deliver surveying services across Cornwall & the South West in line with our 4-year Business Plan.  We increasingly provide consultancy services for a range of private clients.

The role will be as an integral part of Cormac’s GeoConsultancy Services team, a well-established team predominantly supporting the Highway and Environment sectors. We undertake ground investigations and provide geotechnical design services to internal and external clients. We frequently undertake slope assessments and strengthened earthworks design, mining legacy investigations and remediation, contaminated land assessments and topographical survey and drone services. We also work closely alongside colleagues proving structural designs supporting retaining wall, foundation and pile design as well as pavement and drainage investigations for highway improvements or new designs.

The role requires the management of projects through all stages of the Geotechnical Risk Management process, from initial project concept through to Geotechnical Feedback Reports. You will be part of a team that runs its own percussive and rotary drill rigs, working alongside colleagues in our own UKAS accredited soils and materials laboratory. This is a great opportunity to work in a team that not only undertakes ground investigation contracts, but also provides design services for those same projects, all in a beautiful part of the Country.

About you

  • You will be a Chartered  Engineer or Engineering Geologist with a strong geotechnical design experience. You will have a relevant post-graduation qualification, with demonstrable experience of undertaking and reporting ground investigations and geotechnical design reports.
  • We are looking for a proactive, ambitious team player who can assist in the development of innovative, buildable and cost-effective geotechnical solutions, sometimes under demanding project requirements.  Previous experience in geotechnical design software packages DIPS/SLIDE/SETTLE 3D and ROCFALL, or equivalents would needed.
  • Good report writing and communication skills is essential along with good IT and analytical skills.
  • You will need to be flexible in your approach to work,  assisting colleagues and client team in prioritising the managing the delivery of geotechnical projects to programme and budget.  
  • You will also have the proven ability to undertake and fulfil the physical demands of the position. 

We are looking for you to bring:

  • Strong focus on health and safety, including CDM, 
  • Geotechnical design experience in foundations, strengthened earthworks, rock slope remediation and pile design.
  • Ground Investigation skills and experience.
  • Experience of working on own initiative and as part of a team; supporting and managing colleagues.
  • Good IT, report writing and communication skills;
  • Good analytical skills;
  • Excellent client management skills;

You will be joining our professional and experienced GeoConsultancy Services team to assist in the timely and successful delivery of geotechnical, contaminated land and mining investigations and surveys.  This team works closely alongside colleagues in CORMAC Infrastructure Design and Contracting Teams. We are an energetic team who are committed to delivering the very best to the people of Cornwall.

This role will see you managing and developing a small team of staff within the section and you will also be expected to project manage ground investigations and geotechnical designs.

You will need to bring a collaborative approach and excellent communication skills that allow you to develop strong, functional relationships with delivery staff, internal clients, landowners and other stake holders. You will also have a strong focus on health, safety and welfare of all those.

Salary: £26,791 - £49,921
