A competitive cheerleading team from Cornwall is celebrating an incredible start to their season after taking first place at the Cymru Clash Cheerleading Competition, marking a major milestone for the squad.
The Lady Red Cheerleading Team, part of West Coast Academy CIC, impressed judges with a powerful and energetic routine that secured them the top spot at the event.
Their success doesn’t stop there. The team has also qualified to compete at the European Summit Cheerleading Championships in Portugal later this season, where they will proudly represent Cornwall on an international stage.
This achievement is particularly special, as it is believed to be the first time a cheerleading team from Cornwall has secured a place at this prestigious European event.
Lady Red is made up of dedicated young athletes who train hard each week, building strength, teamwork and confidence through competitive cheerleading. Their victory at Cymru Clash reflects months of preparation, determination and commitment from both the athletes and their coaches.
A spokesperson for West Coast Academy said:
"We are incredibly proud of the Lady Red athletes. Winning their first competition of the season is an amazing achievement, but qualifying for the European Summit is something truly special. To have a team from Cornwall reaching this level of competition is a huge moment for our athletes and our community."
The team will now continue their training as they prepare to travel to Portugal later this year, where they will compete against some of the best cheerleading teams from across Europe.
To help make the journey possible, the team is currently seeking local sponsors and supporters to help with travel costs. Businesses that sponsor the team will have the opportunity to support young athletes from Cornwall while gaining visibility through team events, social media, and community promotion.
For many of the athletes, competing at the European Summit will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and a chance to showcase the talent, dedication and spirit of young athletes from Cornwall on the European stage.
