Arcadia is an Olivier award winning play by Tom Stoppard and covers topics such as science, philosophy, mathematics, history, love and human nature crossing over two time periods, linked by poetry and discovery.
Dorothy Nelson is directing the St Austell Players production, which was planned before covid.
"Exploring Arcadia with this talented group of actors has been an absolute pleasure." says Dorothy, "This is such a complex play, with really thought provoking topics, told in an incredibly witty and comic way. It has been a real challenge to take on."
"The play takes place in one room in a stately home in Derbyshire, so the set, props and furniture remain the same throughout the play," continued Dorothy, "However, time passes, so we see characters from the 1800s right through to 2022 interacting in the same room. It is the daughter of the house, Thomasina, and her scientific discoveries, along with a poetry book by a friend of the family that links the two time periods, as the modern day researchers try and unpick what took place in history."
"We've enjoyed putting together this play so much, and our younger cast members especially are creating something really special. We just can't wait to perform it!"
You can catch Arcadia at St Austell Arts Centre, 30th November to 3rd December.
