We are looking for an Environment Reactive Chargehand to join our Environment team, covering sites across East Cornwall. You will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance and repair of Cornwall Council assets including play equipment, gates/fencing, pathways/steps, and cutting back vegetation causing an obstruction The successful candidates will have a wealth of experience in a landscaping type role and a proven track record of delivering excellent customer service.

The role of Reactive Chargehand will include:

  • Be responsible for your team’s compliance with all relevant Health and Safety legislation and company policies, including carrying out point of work risk assessments
  • Providing supervisory support in keeping sites well maintained and to contract specification
  • Ensure team’s electronic paperwork is correct and submitted on time
  • Ensure electronic defect reports are completed and returned promptly 
  • Carry out repairs to play equipment, fences, pathways and walls etc. Construction of new fence lines, steps and installation of new play equipment.
  • Using equipment and materials in a safe manner as instructed and in accordance with risk assessments, manufacturer’s guidance and company policy
  • Carrying out all hazardous tasks in a safe manor and in line with current industry best practice, ensuring relevant records are maintained to comply with health and safety and legal requirements
  • Ensuring tools and equipment are maintained in good condition and continue to be suitable for required tasks
  • Assist in responding positively to requests for service and breakdowns in service delivery to meet customer expectations

Skills and experiences:

  • Recent experience of undertaking a similar role and experience of carrying out repairs across a wide range of assets 
  • Experience with landscaping works is beneficial
  • This role will involve driving on company business. In order to drive a company vehicle, drivers must hold a full valid UK driving licence, Class C1E is desirable
  • Self-motivation with the ability to use own initiative
