Animal lovers across Cornwall are invited to step up for a cause this spring, as a Big Walk in Hayle raises awareness of the vital support available to older people and terminally ill pet owners.
The Big Walk will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, May 4, at the Hayle Recreation Ground, with participants setting of for a stroll along the King George V Memorial Walk at 12 pm.
This local Big Walk is part of The Trust’s annual country-wide initiative, where pet lovers and their four-legged friends across the country are going out for walks to meet-up with likeminded people, learn more about the charity’s services, and help spread the word within the pet owner community.
Patrick Williams, Chief Executive of The Cinnamon Trust, says:
"The Big Walk returns this year, bringing communities together to celebrate the special bond between people and their pets. More than a simple stroll, the Big Walk carries one important message: you don’t have to give up your pet just because you need a little help — we’re here for you.
Everyone who joins helps share that message, whether with a neighbour, a family member, or someone chatting about their pet at a café or on a walk!
Last year, during our 40th anniversary, over 1,400 people took part in Big Walks nationwide. This year, we’re hoping even more supporters will lace up their shoes and join us in spreading kindness, connection, and support for older people and pets who need it."
This year marks the fourth consecutive year that the Big Walk is bringing communities together across the UK. The Hayle Big Walk is one of more than 45 walks taking place nationwide, and everyone is welcome to take part.
With dogs of all shapes and sizes expected to turn out in limited-edition Cinnamon Trust bandanas, the Hayle Big Walk promises to be a day of fun in the loving company of an animal loving community and a powerful awareness-raiser that keeps people and pets together when they need each other most.
Those who sign up before 21 April will receive a free goody bag, supported by ethical pet brands such as Nature’s Menu and The Pet’s Larder, both known for their focus on natural, high-quality pet food. The Cinnamon Trust supports older and terminally ill pet owners across the UK through a network of more than 20,000 volunteers, who help with tasks such as dog walking, taking pets to the vet, cleaning bird cages and providing short‑term foster care during hospital stays. For many, this help means they can keep their pets at home for longer without the added worry of losing a treasured companion.
