Children's Day returns to Truro

Families can enjoy lots of fun activities and entertainment in Truro City Centre for Children’s Day on Saturday 21 June when many businesses and organisations make children and young people their focus.

For the eighth year, Truro Business Improvement District (BID) have gathered around 35 local businesses and organisations together to take part in the event. In addition, nearly 30 shops and eateries in the city are participating with in-store activities and offers.

There will be plenty of free entertainment and activities including the return of spectacular mountain bike stunt shows on Lemon Quay.

Walking and cycling charity Sustrans will be back with their popular free scooter, balance, and pedal bike obstacle course for children, plus their exciting static cycle activity for young people to improve their off-road skills (bikes and helmets provided).

There will be free have-a-go sessions in circus skills with Swamp Circus, and this year dance performances from Flangan’s School of Irish Dance, Cornwall Dance School, Jason Thomas Performing Arts and Stagecoach Truro.

Children can enjoy swing boat rides, along with family-friendly crazy golf. Lemon Quay will host a selection of stalls featuring art and craft activities, and games for families.

In addition to Lemon Quay, other activities will be taking place across the city. New for this year, there will be activity in Pydar Street giving families to chance to meet Viking warriors from Brederedh Cornovii, a local reenactment group and Cosplay characters from the local charity, True Butterflies Foundation who provide support services to domestic abuse survivors.

Children’s Day will also be host to a Street Market across Boscawen Street, Pydar Street and High Cross. The regular Truro Farmers Market traders will be relocating to Boscawen Street for the day to allow more space for the family activities on Lemon Quay. Alongside this Cornwall Shop Small and Truro Farmers Market are hosting the Children’s Day Street Market. The market will feature family-friendly local and indie traders selling contemporary art, craft & design, sustainable home, fashion & lifestyle wares, artisan food & drink and vintage finds dotted across Boscawen Street, Pydar Street and High Cross.

Truro’s two permanent indoor markets, Lemon Street Market and Pannier Market will be open as usual and joining in with the fun. There will be street entertainment popping up across the city, including circus performers and live music.

Many of Truro’s shops and eateries will have family friendly in-store activities and offers, including art activities, offers, competitions and meal deals.

Truro based charity CLEAR Emotion Trauma and Therapy Specialists will be officially launching their Fred the Ted campaign across the county with Fred, the special teddy bear. Fred’s Fund aims raise vital funds so that more children across Cornwall can access therapy they need to recover from abuse, violence and bereavement and more details can be found www.clearsupport.net/children-and-young-people/fred-s-fund

Children’s Day is brought to the city by Truro BID and sponsored by Coodes Solicitors.
