Every year Cornwall Hospice Care saves over a million donated items of clothing from landfill thanks to its supporters. The healthcare charity’s shoppers also play their part, buying the goods and giving them a second life. This year the retail team are celebrating with their first Sustainable Fashion Show being held in the beautiful setting of Truro Cathedral.
The event will feature ward staff from the charity’s two hospices modelling donated clothes. Under a number of different headings from everyday wear to party outfits, they’ll sashay down the catwalk alongside colleagues and volunteers.
“It promises to be a glittering occasion,” says Justine Cook who’s part of the Cornwall Hospice care retail team. “We’ll be showcasing the range of extraordinary donated clothes we receive. There’ll also be a bar and stalls featuring other sustainable outlets that we work with and who recycle some of the items we can’t sell. We also want to show people how their donations and purchases ensure we can provide the end of life care we offer at our hospices and the bereavement services we run for, and in, the community.”
Last financial year Cornwall Hospice Care’s retail department made a profit that then became a contribution to the cost of providing the care, of £1.65million. The charity has 30 shops, including donation centres and a warehouse.
The even takes place Friday 4th October 2024 at 7pm
