Falmouth Week organisers are delighted to announce a standout air display for Wednesday 12th August, with three world-class display teams set to take to the skies over Falmouth Bay as Cornwall experiences its most significant solar eclipse since 1999.
The Royal Navy Parachute Display Team, The Flying Comrades and the AeroSuperBatics Wingwalkers will each perform as part of a high-energy evening of breathtaking aerial entertainment from 6pm, with a 95% partial solar eclipse unfolding simultaneously overhead.
With Cornwall set to be one of the best viewing locations in the entire country as the sky darkens over Falmouth Bay, this is a convergence of human spectacle and natural wonder that promises to be truly unforgettable.
The Royal Navy Parachute Display Team, known as the Raiders, is one of Britain's most celebrated military display acts. Formed in 1983, the team consists of experienced parachutists drawn from across the Surface Fleet, Submarine Service, Royal Marines and Fleet Air Arm, with volunteers from almost every rank and rate represented. Trailing coloured smoke and flags as they freefall towards the harbour, the Raiders deliver a display of precision and courage that never fails to inspire.
The Flying Comrades are an aerobatic formation team flying a duo of iconic Yakovlev Yak-52 aircraft, a blend of vintage Soviet engineering famous for its incredible aerobatic capabilities. Expect tight formation flying, exhilarating passes and a display that is as visually distinctive as it is thrilling.
The AeroSuperBatics Wingwalkers represent one of the most extraordinary spectacles in the airshow world. The world's only formation wingwalking team, operating iconic Boeing Stearman biplanes, the team delivers breathtaking sequences of loops, rolls and turns while daring wingwalkers perform handstands against 150mph wind pressure.
Richard Gates, Falmouth Week Chair, commented: “Falmouth Week has always prided itself on delivering memorable moments across the summer event, and this year's air display is shaping up to be something genuinely special. Three incredible display teams performing above Falmouth Bay as Cornwall experiences its deepest solar eclipse in over 25 years will be truly unmissable.”
The Falmouth Week air display is subject to weather conditions and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) approval. Important marine, traffic and visitor information for Wednesday 12th August will be released closer to the event via the Falmouth Week digital programme, on the official Falmouth Week social media platforms, on the Falmouth Week website and through local media outlets. Simple eclipse‑safe viewing guidance will be included in the public advisory for anyone planning to observe it.
