Members of Falmouth Golf Club have raised a staggering £11,314.61 during 2024 to support the work of a Cornish charity that provides specialist support to bereaved children.
The club’s captains, Ladies Captain Toni Novent and Men's Captain Phil Jones, were inspired to support Penhaligon’s Friends after learning about the work it undertakes to support more than 1,000 children and young people across the county who have lost someone special each year.
The money was raised through a series of events during the year, including the Captains’ Charity Day and the Captains’ Drive In.
Phil Jones said:
“Toni had the idea to work with Penhaligon’s Friends so we met with them and were absolutely bowled over by the charity's work. We were in no doubt that this would be an excellent cause to support during our Captains’ year.”
Julie Parker from Penhaligon’s Friends said:
“We are thrilled to have received this incredible donation from Falmouth Golf Club. We are extremely grateful to everyone at the club for their hard work and generosity. A very special thank you goes to the club’s captains, Phil, Toni, and Henry Cooper, the junior captain, for choosing to support Penhaligon’s Friends during their year.
“This donation will fund the creation and distribution of hundreds of bespoke postal grief packs for the children and families referred to us for support during 2025 and 2026. We are always looking for support from Cornish businesses, individuals, schools, and clubs to ensure we can continue our mission to support bereaved children across Cornwall into the future.”
