Kowethas an Yeth Kernewek – Cornish language weekend

Every Spring Kowethas an Yeth Kernewek – one of the larger support organisations for the Cornish language – holds a live language weekend (Pennseythen Gernewek).

This year the Pennseythen Gernewek will be held on the 28th, 29th and 30th of March. The aim of the weekend is to give Cornish speakers and learners a chance to use the language in an enjoyable way and in a friendly, stress-free and relaxed environment. This year sessions will includes workshops, lectures and traditional style lessons, alongside more practical sessions covering things like creative writing, crafts using Cornish and singing. We will also be introducing a new 2 day intensive course for beginners or near-beginners with a focus on spoken language, which will take place on the Friday and Saturday. Beginners will have a chance to practise their new skills and join in with other activities and workshops during the evenings and on the Sunday.

Following the success of last years event, we will once again be hosted by Cornwall Council at Lys Kernow (New County Hall) in Truro. Evening events, including music, films and more are being held at The County Arms and Royal Cornwall Museum over the weekend.

There has been an explosion of interest in Cornish over the past few years. Not only is Cornish being used in primary schools all over Cornwall, but growing use of on-line communication has enabled new people to join classes and conversation groups, including many from the Cornish Diaspora and elsewhere beyond the Duchy. The Pennseythen welcomes people with all levels of Cornish. Visit the Kowethas an Yeth Kernewek website (https://cornish-language.org) for more details and to purchase tickets.
