Newquay RNLI Volunteers were delighted to meet ladies from Newquay Thursday Club who have been busy throughout 2024 raising funds for their local lifeboat station.

The Newquay Thursday Club is a social group for ladies which is affiliated to Newquay Methodist Church. The group meet fortnightly and hold informal talks, visits and fun activities. Each year they choose a local charity to support and in 2024 the ladies chose to support Newquay Lifeboat Station in the RNLI’s bicentenary year.

Fundraising activities ranged from coffee mornings, a fashion show and garden parties to a Shanty Cruise. With help from local businesses the ladies club had outlets for some of their craft items and donations of accommodation vouchers. A painting by a renown local artist also brought in valuable funds and another annual boost came by way of the Headland Hotel donating handsomely in recompense for the Thursday Club’s help in putting up all the Christmas decorations in the hotel.

Maggie Biddle, President of the Newquay Thursday Club said: ‘The final total of £9,000 was revealed to the Newquay RNLI fundraisers at the Carols By Candlelight service before Christmas. It was a very special evening in the company of the Newquay Singers, The Celtic Fiddlers and the 3rd Newquay Brownies who have all played their part in helping us to achieve this record-breaking amount.

This splendid sum was thanks to a whole team effort by all the ladies of the Thursday Club who have contributed in time and effort throughout the year whilst having a lot of fun on the way!

The club are proud to support their local community and the know that Newquay RNLI volunteers will find good use for the funds to help them in their valiant voluntary service’.

All at Newquay Lifeboat station would like to thank members of the Thursday Club and all businesses and groups who helped them to achieve this record-breaking donation.
