June’s annual Royal Cornwall Show enjoyed a successful event despite a wet Saturday. The organisers have announced an official attendance of 110,676, which is down on the previous year, but not an unexpected number after the downturn in weather on the final day.
The three day show started on Thursday with strong livestock, equine and sections shows, demonstrating the best in breeding and competition across many classes and championships.
Putting the ‘Royal’ into Royal Cornwall Show, on day two, the Show welcomed their Patron, HRH The Duke of Cornwall, and Vice President, HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh.
Their Royal Highnesses enjoyed a tour of the Royal Cornwall Food and Farming Pavilion, where they sampled locally produced preserves, artisan gin, Cornish pasties, and even a tipple of Rattler cider.
His Royal Highness then stopped by the Duchy of Cornwall stand and met several local mental health charities that were exhibiting at the Show, a topic that is very close to the Duke’s heart and one he is determined to raise the awareness of, especially in rural and farming communities.
The Duchess of Edinburgh visited two of her patronages – the Girl Guides and LEAF, before spending time in the showing rings of the cattle, sheep and pig sections, where she spoke with winners and champions about their Show experience.
It has been several years since the Show has experienced a real wet day, so luck was bound to run out at some point, and that time was on Saturday. Heavy showers peppered the Show for most of the day, but a great effort by the Showground team, parking team, stewards, volunteers and staff meant the Show carried on successfully.
CEO and Secretary of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, Mark Stoddart, described his first year as an enjoyable one even with some of the challenges that were faced
“On the whole, this has been an incredibly successful Show for all those involved. There were some hoops that needed to be jumped through prior to the Show due to the Blue Tongue and Avian Flu restrictions, which the team here has dealt with extremely well.
We had a very successful Royal Visit and were able to showcase the best of Cornwall through agriculture, food, drink, its charities and organisations to their Royal Highnesses and the wider watching audience.
But a big thank you needs to be extended to the magnificent teams of people that made sure the Show carried on during the difficult conditions we experienced on Saturday. A big effort by the whole team, our parking contractors, stewards, grounds team, and some great enthusiasm from our traders and entertainers kept spirits high and we are grateful to all the visitors that braved the weather, your loyalty and passion for the Royal Cornwall Show is inspiring.”
The Royal Cornwall Show will return in 2026 on the 4, 5 & 6 June.
