St Keverne Band is thrilled to announce the successful award of £19,950 in funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to support vital accessibility improvements to their band room. This funding will enable the installation of new accessible doors and furnishings, making the space more welcoming and inclusive for all members and visitors.
This achievement was made possible with the support of Access Cornwall CIC, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to carrying out accessibility site audits to improve accessibility across Cornwall. Their expertise and commitment to inclusion played a key role in securing this funding.
“We are delighted to receive this funding, which will allow us to enhance our band room’s accessibility, ensuring that more people can fully participate in our musical community,” says Alan Retallack, Chair of St Keverne Band. “Huge thanks go to the National Lottery Community Fund and of course all those who play the national lottery who help to contribute to causes like this.”
"We are delighted that our access audit contributed to the development of this community project," says Helen Martin, director of Access Cornwall CIC. “Our CIC is based in St Keverne and St Keverne Band has supported all three of my children, including Holly, my daughter who suffered a severe traumatic brain injury four years ago and who is now a wheelchair user, and volunteer for us here at Access Cornwall. Holly’s accident brought
home to all of us in the local community how any one of us might need disabled-friendly spaces at some point and it’s fantastic that St Keverne Band have put in so much effort to make this happen in the band room.”
The improvements will not only benefit existing members but also foster a more inclusive environment for future musicians and attendees. With these upgrades, St Keverne Band continues its proud tradition of being an accessible and welcoming space for all.
