Truro coffee morning raises more than £1,000 for national appeal

Cake, cuppas and crafts were the order of the day at the Truro Christian Aid Group coffee morning for Christian Aid Week 2025.

Hosted by Sue and Barry Pettit, with help from volunteers from St George’s Church, the event was in support of the work of the charity’s local partners, empowering vulnerable communities to find practical and sustainable ways out of poverty.

Sue explained: “We enjoy getting together with friends and neighbours for our coffee morning with stalls selling all kinds of goods and a raffle.

“It was well supported, the weather was mostly dry and we raised £1,034.70.”

This year’s appeal focused on work in Guatemala, in Central America, where climate change is causing the seasons to intensify and shift erratically. Water sources are drying up and vital crops are failing, plunging farming families into hunger and poverty.

Despite the challenges families are facing, the unstoppable power of hope drives people to look for ways to push back, diversifying and growing more resilient crops, building water recycling systems, and creating organic fertiliser.
