Penrice Academy in St Austell is celebrating an outstanding week of sporting success after both its Year 10 and Year 7 boys’ football teams were crowned County Champions in their respective Cornwall Schools' Football Association finals.
The Year 10 Boys’ Team retained their County Cup title with an impressive victory over Truro School. The team displayed excellent form, continuing their winning legacy from the previous year with a commanding performance.
Callum (10LS) led the scoring with a hat-trick, supported by goals from Peter (10OB), Ollie (10LS), and Ollie (10JS), along with one own goal from the opposition to seal the team’s second successive county title.
The success continued on Wednesday, when the Year 7 Boys’ Team faced Falmouth School in a thrilling final. Despite the pressure of the big stage, the young Penrice players rose to the occasion, demonstrating outstanding determination and composure to clinch a narrow 3-2 victory and secure the County Cup title.
Goals came from Morgan (7GS), Alex (7GS), and Jenson (7PB).
Mr Jenkin, Head of PE at Penrice Academy, praised the teams, saying:
“This is a phenomenal achievement by our students and staff. Winning one County Cup is a huge honour, but winning two in the same week is truly exceptional. We are incredibly proud of the determination, sportsmanship and talent shown at both finals. The teams were buoyed by tremendous support from the Penrice community, with staff, students, and families turning out in numbers to cheer on the teams.”
Penrice Academy extends its heartfelt thanks to all those who attended to cheer on the teams.
