Sustainable Thinking to Rewind Climate Change

Jason Ratcliffe is the Rewind Radio Sustainability Expert for home and business premises.

Whether you are a nature lover like myself or you want to protect your wallet and the planet for generations to come. Sustainability is a key element in our everyday lives, and is something that will both aid in the preservation of nature and our planet, as well as saving you money!

Every home and business premises on the planet has some form of carbon footprint. However, in the UK this is a noticeable footprint and there are many ways in which we can all do our bit, the first step is knowing how and this is what I am here to share with you.

The cost of living is on the rise and it has become every more expensive to maintain a healthy and comfortable living temperature within our homes and places of work. This affects how we feel, how we behave and our productivity.

Business owners may wish to consider investing in sustainable solutions such as upgraded insulation and heating systems, along with encouraging cycling or walking to work where possible. This increases productivity and well-being of staff, therefore increasing potential business growth as well as helping out our little blue planet.

Each home and business premises is unique and will require its own individual solutions to these issues.

Which is why Steren Surveyors provides sustainability feasibility inspections, thermographic inspections and project management to support clients through this transformation process.

Blue Monday

Blue Monday, coined as the third Monday of January, is often characterised as a day when many individuals grapple with their mental health. As the holiday festivities fade into memory and the reality of the new year settles in, people may find themselves facing a combination of factors that contribute to a sense of gloominess.

The post-holiday blues, compounded by colder weather and shorter days, can lead to a collective feeling of lethargy and melancholy. Financial strains from holiday spending, the pressure of New Year's resolutions, and the return to routine after a break can also add to the emotional burden. Moreover, the realisation that achieving those ambitious resolutions might be more challenging than anticipated can further exacerbate feelings of disappointment and stress.

The lack of sunlight during the winter months is another significant factor, as it can disrupt circadian rhythms and impact mood-regulating neurotransmitters, such as serotonin. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a type of depression related to changes in seasons, tends to peak during these darker, colder months, amplifying the challenges faced on Blue Monday.

Social factors also play a role, as individuals may compare their lives to others' seemingly perfect experiences, especially on social media platforms. This social comparison can lead to feelings of inadequacy, isolation, and a distorted perception of reality.

To address the collective struggle on Blue Monday, it's crucial to foster open conversations about mental health, promoting awareness and understanding. Encouraging supportive communities, both online and offline, can provide a sense of connection and alleviate feelings of isolation. Additionally, emphasising self-care, healthy coping mechanisms, and seeking professional help when needed can contribute to breaking the cycle of despair associated with this challenging day. Ultimately, understanding the multifaceted nature of mental health struggles during this time allows for a more compassionate and comprehensive approach to supporting individuals through Blue Monday and beyond.
