A group of determined young paddlers from Carbis Bay are preparing to take on a 24‑hour, round‑the‑clock paddle to raise vital funds for their club’s growing youth programme.
The Ocean Sports Youth community - a team of 13 to 17‑year‑olds who have spent the past year developing their skills on the water - will paddle in hour‑long shifts, rotating in groups of three throughout the full day and night on July 17 and 18 in Carbis Bay.
Katie Smart, who contacted Cornwall’s Rewind Radio on behalf of the group, said the challenge reflects just how far the young paddlers have come.
Over the last year, the team has built confidence, independence and teamwork through regular training.

Their progress was on full display in April 2026 when they entered the 3 Creeks Race in Helford, paddling and steering their own boats as a junior crew -something believed to be a first in the UK.
The upcoming sponsored paddle aims to raise much‑needed funds to help the club expand opportunities for its youth members.
Organisers say the money will support the growth of a unique programme that gives young people in Cornwall the chance to experience the social, physical and mental benefits of paddling.
The group hopes the community will get behind their efforts as they take on one of their biggest challenges yet.
