Cornwall Radio Team Embark on 3,500-Mile European Challenge to Raise Funds for Local Charity HD Livin’

Shaun Ford and Richard Woods

Richard Woods, Managing Director of Cornwall’s Rewind Radio, and Shaun Ford, the station’s Operations Director, plus friend Jamie "Billsy" Bills are gearing up for an extraordinary challenge: a 3,500-mile round trip across Europe in just 10 days as part of the Banger or Bust Rally – Monopoli or Bust.

The daring adventure will see the pair travel across multiple countries in the Cornwall’s Rewind Radio Van, pushing both themselves and their vehicle to the limit — all in the name of raising vital funds for HD Livin’, a local charity dedicated to supporting those living with Huntington’s Disease (HD) and Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

They will be setting off from Rewind Radio office on Saturday 27th of September and aiming to reach Monopoli on the 4th of October. They will embark on the return leg covering over 1700 miles in less than 27 hours to make it back to the station on the 7th of October in time for the 4th Birthday of Cornwall's Rewind Radio.

HD Livin’ has a bold mission: to build a dedicated respite centre in Cornwall, offering relief and care for those with HD and MND, as well as much-needed support for their families.

Richard Woods said:

“This is our third year fundraising for HD Livin’, a charity born out of love and necessity — to support those living with Huntington’s Disease and Motor Neurone Disease.

Our dream is to create a dedicated respite centre here in Cornwall: a safe haven where families can find relief, and where those who are suffering can be cared for with dignity, compassion, and hope.

So far, through incredible generosity, we have raised over £100,000 in conjunction with Tony Lomas, founder of HD Livin'. We are now at a critical stage — in active discussions to secure land and a building we can transform into this much-needed centre.

But the urgency has never felt more real. One of our own Directors, Shaun, has recently been diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease — a cruel, terminal condition that strikes without mercy. It is passed down through families, with every child of an affected parent facing a 50% chance of inheriting the faulty gene.

This fight is personal. It is heartbreaking. And we cannot do it alone.

We need your help to turn hope into reality. Together, we can build a place of comfort, support, and care for families who desperately need it.”

The Banger or Bust Rally is renowned for its tough routes, quirky vehicles, and determined fundraisers. For Richard, Shaun and Jamie, however, the journey represents more than just an endurance test — it is a powerful statement of hope, courage, and community spirit.

A massive thanks goes to Andy Gwyn from Cornwall Windows and Conservatories in Camborne for agreeing to be the main sponsor for the challenge.
