A crushing night for the Conservatives as they lose all their seats across the Duchy.
There’s been a wipeout for the Conservatives in Cornwall, with the results of Thursday’s general election showing major gains for Labour and the Liberal Democrats in the county.
A resurgent Labour Party has picked up four of Cornwall’s six constituencies – Truro and Falmouth, Camborne and Redruth, St Austell and Newquay, and South-East Cornwall – whilst the Liberal Democrats have won St Ives and North Cornwall.
It means that the Conservatives – who held all six of Cornwall’s seats heading into Thursday’s vote – no longer have any Cornish MPs.
Nationally, the Labour Party have won the general election in a landslide – with Sir Keir Starmer set to become the new Prime Minister later on Thursday. The Conservatives have experienced their worst results ever, while the Liberal Democrats have made big gains.
A number of high-profile Conservatives have lost their seats – including former Prime Minister Liz Truss and several members of the Cabinet.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has become an MP after winning his seat, and the Green Party’s Carla Denyer has won the seat of Bristol Central.
