Cornwall was awash with colour as the very first Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity Pink Wig Mermaid March took to the streets — raising an incredible £22,400 to support breast cancer patients at the Mermaid Centre, Royal Cornwall Hospital.
Hundreds of supporters, dressed in dazzling pink wigs and shimmering mermaid scales, joined together to celebrate, remember loved ones and fundraise to support this important facility for Cornwall.
Every pound raised will directly enhance care for patients at the Mermaid Centre. From ticket sales and raffle prizes to donations, t-shirts, food and drink — the generosity of the community will make a lasting difference.
Fundraising Manager at RCHT Charity, Karen Murrish, said:
“We took the reins of this much-loved event from an incredible group of friends that started the pink wig event in support of their late friend. This incredible event has shown the true power of our community. We were absolutely blown away by the sight of hundreds of pink-wigged mermaids marching together. The money raised will go directly to supporting patients at the Mermaid Centre, and we are so grateful to everyone who donated, danced, marched and supported us.”
A spokesperson for Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions, part of Spirax Group, headline sponsor of the event, added:
“We are proud to stand alongside the RCHT Charity in supporting such an important cause. The Pink Wig Mermaid March brought people together in such a joyful and inspiring way, and we are delighted to have played a part in its success.”
Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity extends heartfelt thanks to its headline sponsor Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions, part of Spirax Group, alongside all the local businesses, volunteers, and the Mermaid Marchers themselves, whose energy and spirit made local history.
One participant shared:
“It was such a special event to be part of. There was so much laughter, music and sparkle — but also a strong sense of purpose. Knowing that every step we took was helping local people facing breast cancer made it even more meaningful.”
Plans are being made for The Pink Wig Mermaid March 2026, with the promise of even more sparkle and support for a cause that touches so many lives in Cornwall.
