On Sunday 7th September 2025, the team at Newell’s Travel will trade brochures for backpacks as all 11 of their branches dive headfirst into an unforgettable charity challenge Race Across the County.
Inspired by the spirit of the hit TV series Race Across the World, this high-energy, clue-driven competition will send their travel experts racing across Cornwall in a test of teamwork, wit, and local knowledge, all in support of Penhaligon’s Friends, a Cornish charity dedicated to supporting bereaved children and their families.
The Challenge
Each branch will set off from their own location with a sealed envelope of cryptic clues, a limited fuel budget. With surprise checkpoints, quirky detours, and community-driven challenges across the county, teams must work together to navigate the best route to the finish line.
“This isn’t your average Sunday drive,” says a Lisa Hawken, Manager and Events Co‑ordinator at Newell’s Travel “It’s all about raising as much as we can for a brilliant cause and embracing the adventurous nature of our industry!”
Supporting a Vital Cause
At the heart of this challenge is a mission that truly matters. Every mile and mystery solved is in aid of raising vital funds for Penhaligon’s Friends, a small but mighty charity offering grief support to children and young people facing the loss of a loved one. The organisation also trains those who support them from teachers to carers, providing understanding, empathetic care in the face of tragedy.
“All donations go directly towards helping children rebuild their lives after bereavement,” says Bryony Penberthy, Regional Sales Manager. “We’re incredibly proud to support Penhaligon’s Friends and shine a light on the life-changing work they do across Cornwall.”
