South West Water is working with customers to help them save money on their water bills this winter.
With many people still feeling the effects of the cost-of-living-crisis, the water company is committed to keeping bills low for customers, while also supporting them to use less water.
South West Water recently announced a £200 million financial package for customers who need it most as part of its business plan for 2025-2030. Through the plan, South West Water is making a record £3.2 billion investment in the region to improve services and deliver on the promises they have made for the future based on what customers care about most.
Alongside the £200 million support package, South West Water is also doubling down on its industry-leading pledge to have no customers in water poverty by 2030 by offering a range of support options to help them manage their bills. This can include switching to a meter, so customers only pay for the water they use, signing up to an affordability tariff, or receiving free water-saving devices.
Ketan Hindocha, Director of Customer Care at South West Water, said: “It is more important than ever that customers receive the support they need while we continue to work hard to keep bills low. There are currently 45,000 people receiving support from one of our support tariffs and we encourage anyone who is struggling to pay their bill to get in touch. We are here to help customers use less water and save money on their bills.”
Tips for saving money on a water bill:
Taking control with a meter
Switching to a water meter means customers only pay for the water they use. We’re so confident that you’ll save money on a meter, you’ll automatically be given our Lowest Bill Guarantee. If you don’t save money in the first two years after your meter is installed, we’ll refund the difference between your metered and unmetered bill, and you can switch back at any time.
Leakage allowance and support
Having a water meter can help detect leaks on a customer’s private supply by highlighting a rise in consumption. Fixing these will reduce the amount of water a customer pays for. South West Water may be able to help with a contribution to get any leak repaired, and help towards the cost of any water lost.
Flexible payments to spread the cost
Spreading the cost of a bill can make payments easier for some customers with the opportunity to pay weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
Free water-saving devices
Water-saving devices are a simple and easy way to reduce water usage, from tap inserts and buffaloo bags to shower timers and flow-reducing showerheads - there are many devices that South West Water has available for free to help reduce usage.
Reducing water use
There are lots of really easy ways of using less water, like only running the washing machine when full or swapping your hosepipe for a watering can. For customers on a water meter, and reduction in usage will result in lower bills.
