Truro and Penwith College is celebrating national recognition for the high-quality information, advice and guidance (IAG) it provides to learners after successfully regaining the prestigious Matrix Quality Standard accreditation for a further three years.
The internationally recognised accreditation, supported by the Department for Education (DfE), is awarded to organisations that deliver independent and impartial information, advice and guidance to help individuals achieve their career, learning, work and life goals.
Following a comprehensive assessment, Matrix assessors praised the College’s commitment to supporting students throughout every stage of their educational journey, highlighting the institution’s role in helping learners recognise and pursue opportunities that may not always be visible.
Principal Carl Riding said:
"We are proud of our academic and vocational excellence, but what truly defines us is how we help students use that education. Our information, advice and guidance ensure every student understands where their learning can take them and how to get there."
The reaccreditation follows the College’s previous Matrix review in 2023. Assessors recognised significant developments since then, commending:
"A wraparound IAG support service ensuring students receive timely and appropriate IAG."
The assessment found that students benefit from comprehensive support from their first enquiry through to progression into employment, apprenticeships or higher education. This approach ensures learners are equipped to understand their options, make informed decisions and move forward with confidence.
Tim Moody, Employability and Careers Lead, said:
"At Truro and Penwith College, we provide the platform to achieve but, more importantly, we help students achieve their ambitions. Our expertise in careers guidance ensures that every student leaves with a clear plan, a realistic destination and the confidence to succeed."
The award follows a five-day assessment conducted in May, which examined the full range of student services and support available across the College. Assessors reviewed the quality of information, advice and guidance provided by both specialist and teaching staff at every stage of the learner journey, including enrolment, study programmes and progression planning.
Lisa Briscoe, Director of Student Experience, welcomed the reaccreditation, saying:
"At Truro and Penwith College, our priority is ensuring that every student not only succeeds in their studies but understands how their learning connects to their future. Our information, advice and guidance is embedded throughout the student journey, helping individuals make informed choices, build confidence and progress with purpose."
The successful reaccreditation reinforces the College’s commitment to placing student success, aspiration and progression at the heart of everything it does.
