All Hands On Deck For Falmouth's Town-Wide Spring Clean

Volunteers, local organisations and businesses are coming together in Falmouth for a town-wide Spring Clean on Wednesday 25th March, refreshing the town ahead of the main visitor season.

From the town centre to the coastline, a host of dedicated individuals and community groups will be rolling up their sleeves to litter-pick, remove graffiti, refresh planters and give Falmouth a thorough spruce-up. This year's event, organised by Falmouth Town Council and Falmouth BID, spans several key areas, with each location benefiting from the commitment of those who call Falmouth home. Falmouth’s Spring Clean also forms part of the Great British Spring Clean 2026, the national campaign run by Keep Britain Tidy from 13th-29th March unites communities, businesses and schools across the country in a shared mission to care for the places they love.

Falmouth School will be joining forces with Friends of Tregoniggie Woodland to litter-pick their way through the Green Corridor, and with Friends of Swanpool to tidy up around the nature reserve. Upon reaching Swanpool Beach, the students will be met by Plastic Free Falmouth, ready to educate them on the importance of caring for our environment and leaving only footprints when enjoying nature's green spaces.

In the heart of town, four groups of volunteers will be out in force across Falmouth's main streets, carrying out litter-picks, removing graffiti and fly posters, and bringing the town's planters back to their best ahead of spring and summer. BIFFA will also be jet washing benches throughout the town centre, giving the public realm a thorough spruce-up that residents and visitors alike are sure to notice.

Elsewhere, businesses and community groups will be working side by side across the rest of Falmouth. Friends of Greenbank and the Greenbank Hotel will be tackling the beach and green space at Greenbank, while St Michaels Resort joins Friends of Boscawen Fields to rejuvenate Gyllyngvase Beach, one of Falmouth's most-loved golden stretches of coastline.

Over on Pendennis Headland, English Heritage will be putting in a workday to keep this iconic landmark in fine form. And not forgetting the Dracaena Centre, who will be tidying upthe playing fields and skatepark, keeping these vital community spaces in great shape as the warmer weather rolls in.

The scale of this year's Spring Clean is a real testament to the pride of place that Falmouth's community has in its town. A heartfelt thank you to every volunteer, business and organisation that has given up their time to ensure our town remains vibrant, it is this kind of collaborative spirit that keeps Falmouth thriving.

Mrs Joanne Guest, headteacher at Falmouth School highlighted the importance of being involved in these community days. "At Falmouth School, we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom, and days like this are a perfect example of that in action. Getting our students out into the community, working alongside local organisations, learning about environmental responsibility and taking real pride in the place they call home, is incredibly valuable. Falmouth is a remarkable town, and it's important to us that our young people understand the role they play in keeping it that way.”

Keren Cooksey, Falmouth Business Improvement District Manager added: “First impressions matter, and a well-presented town sets the tone for the whole season ahead. The Spring Clean sits right at the heart of our Enhancing Falmouth commitment, creating an attractive, welcoming town that our community and visitors can feel genuinely proud of.”

A huge thank you once again to every group, business and volunteer taking part. To follow the action on the day and see the results, find us on Facebook (Falmouth Cornwall UK) and Instagram (@LoveFalmouth) or visit www.falmouth.co.uk.
