Cornwall’s Rewind Radio confirms new Interim Head of Programming and Duchy Daytime presenter

Craig Hicks at Cornwall’s Rewind Radio

Cornwall’s Rewind Radio is proud to announce the appointment of Craig Hicks as Interim Head of Programming, bringing with him three decades of experience and an unwavering passion for local broadcasting.

Craig began his radio career 30 years ago in hospital radio, building the foundations of a lifelong commitment to community-focused media. He went on to work across a number of commercial radio stations, including Spire FM in Salisbury – the sister station to Pirate FM at the time. Spire FM was previously owned by the UKRD Group before its sale to Bauer Media, alongside Pirate FM.

Six years ago, Craig and fellow directors David and Andy launched Salisbury Radio, driven by a firm belief that local radio truly matters. Their mission was simple but powerful: to provide authentic, community-first broadcasting that reflects the lives, voices and stories of local people.

Craig now joins Cornwall’s Rewind Radio at an exciting stage in its journey, supporting the station’s continued growth, expansion and evolution of sound, while strengthening its commitment to serving communities across Cornwall.

Craig said:

“I’m delighted to join a great team who share the same values as I do. Local radio is the lifeline to communities for many people. For some, it’s their only voice of the day. For others, it brings them joy and happiness that other stations simply cannot provide. Local radio links people with the place they call home.

Since joining Cornwall’s Rewind Radio, I have experienced that real localness. The listeners interact daily, local charities utilise the station to help them share their messages, and local businesses support the station to help it grow – and in turn help themselves grow. It’s a true meaning of collaboration.

I am looking forward to being involved with a station which loves the place it lives within.”

Craig’s career is also a testament to resilience and determination. Born with a visual disability and totally blind, he has embraced technology and an unshakeable determination to ensure nothing stands in his way. His journey to becoming both a presenter and a leader in the sector he loves is an inspiring example of what can be achieved with passion and perseverance.

At a time when local media faces increasing consolidation, Cornwall’s Rewind Radio remains committed to delivering programming that reflects Cornwall’s identity, supports local charities and organisations, and provides a powerful platform for local businesses. Craig’s appointment reinforces the station’s belief that local radio is more than entertainment – it is companionship, connection and community.

Listeners can hear Craig on air every weekday from 1pm to 4pm on Duchy Daytimes, as he brings his experience, warmth and local-first philosophy to the Cornish airwaves.
