A Levels Return To Cornwall College St Austell In 2027

Young people across mid-Cornwall will soon have a new place to study A Levels, as Cornwall College St Austell prepares to welcome its first A Level cohort in September 2027.

Cornwall College, currently rated Outstanding by Ofsted, has confirmed A Levels will return to its St Austell campus as part of a major redevelopment already transforming the site.

“Bringing A Levels to St Austell will provide young people a strong academic option in their own community,” said Mark Wardle, Executive Principal and Deputy CEO of Cornwall College Group.

“We are building something that combines high-quality teaching, modern facilities and the support and enrichment that students need to progress with confidence.”

The new A Level provision will sit at the centre of a multi-million-pound redevelopment of the Cornwall College St Austell campus, with a new A Level centre and purpose-built teaching spaces due to be completed by December 2026.

18 subjects are planned to be offered, with the full course list to be revealed at an upcoming A Level Information Evening held at the Keay Theatre.

Parents, students and local educators are invited to attend the event on Thursday 4th June from 5.30pm to 7pm, where they will be able to meet key staff, explore plans for the new facilities and find out more about the A Level offer ahead of applications opening later this year on September 1st.

The introduction of A Levels at Cornwall College St Austell will widen choice for students in mid-Cornwall, offering a high-quality academic pathway alongside existing routes and giving young people more options to shape their future at their outstanding local college.

The A Level offer is being developed in close collaboration with Cornwall Education Learning Trust (CELT), helping to align provision and support progression for students across the region.

Dan Morrow, CEO of Cornwall Education Learning Trust, said: "The decision to provide such a world-class A Level offer for the learners we serve marks a leap forward for the aspiration and opportunities mid-Cornwall so clearly deserves.”

Applications for the first cohort, starting in September 2027, will open on 1st September. With early interest already building, places are expected to be limited.

“This is about creating opportunity for young people,” added Mark Wardle.

“Students will be able to study A Levels in their own community to reach their goals, supported by experienced staff and a campus that is being built for the future.”

The college’s investment in St Austell reflects a wider commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education across Cornwall, with facilities designed to support both academic and vocational pathways.
