Local community organisation, Gunners Kids CIC, has been awarded funding from the Asda Foundation to launch a new support group for teenagers affected by the terminal illness of a close family member.
Gunners Kids CIC provides vital support to families navigating terminal illness, offering activity days, information sessions, outreach services, and support boxes. This new funding will enable the organisation to expand its services by creating a dedicated group tailored specifically for teenagers.
The group will focus on providing peer support in a safe and understanding environment, alongside a range of engaging activities such as crafts, games, and baking. The initiative aims to help young people connect with others in similar situations while building resilience and emotional wellbeing.
The project has been funded by Asda St Austell, with support from community champion Emma Riley, whose involvement has been instrumental in securing the grant.
Sessions will begin on 18 May and will take place at St Dennis Family Hub from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Meetings will run on the third Monday of every month. The sessions are drop-in and open to any teenager affected by the terminal illness of a close family member.
