Cornwall Hospice is calling on the people of Cornwall to help make history — and enjoy a scone while doing it.
The charity has announced plans for an ambitious and joyful community celebration with an attempt to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the Largest cream tea party.
The record attempt will take place on Saturday 19th September 2026, at the Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge. Cups will be raised, scones enjoyed and history will be made as Cornwall Hospice marks 45 years by striving to put their name in the iconic Guinness World Records.
The current record for the largest cream tea party held in one location stands at 1,088 people, achieved by Beijing Mercedes-Benz Sales Service in Xiamen, China on 29 November 2019 and now it's time tobring it to Cornwall.
The event aims to bring together thousands of people, creating what Cornwall Hospice hope will become the largest cream tea party ever recorded, to enjoy one of the county's most beloved traditions.
All this while raising vital funds to support hospice care and make every moment matter for people with terminal illnesses and their families.
Alongside the record attempt, the event will celebrate Cornish culture, community spirit and the simple joy of sharing food and conversation. The charity will be bringing a pop‑up Cornwall Hospice shop for you to browse, exclusive event merchandise will be available to buy, try your luck with the on‑the‑day raffle and instant cash‑win scratch cards, and soak up the buzz of an event filled with warmth and purpose.
Frazer Hopkins, Director of Income Generation at Cornwall Hospice, said: "As Cornwall Hospice celebrates 45 years of providing exceptional care in Cornwall, we wanted to mark this milestone with something that truly brings people together. The Great Cornish Cream Tea is about celebrating community. Cream teas are such a cherished part of our culture, and we wanted to create something that honours that tradition while making a real difference for our Mount Edgcumbe and St Julia's Hospices.
"Attempting a Guinness World Records title gives us the chance to do something truly special. It is something fun, ambitious and memorable that the whole community can be part of. And remember… jam first, always!"
Rodda's are joining the effort as a Cream of the Crop event sponsor, with their famous clotted cream topping the scones on the day and comedian Josh Widdicombe has donated his time to support the cause by launching the event.
Cornwall Hospice supports thousands of patients and families each year, providing compassionate specialist care, advice and support at some of life's most difficult moments. Funds raised through The Great Cornish Cream Tea will help ensure these services can continue to be there for people across Cornwall when they need them most.
Ellie Smith, Cornwall Hospice's Events and Challenges Partner, added: "Whether you're bringing your family for a memorable day out, gathering friends to celebrate something truly Cornish, or hosting your team for a meaningful corporate experience, this is your chance to be part of something big. Let's fill the hall, raise our scones, and show the world what Cornwall can do."
Tickets cost £10 per person and include your cream tea. To be counted towards the Guinness World Records attempt, participants must consume their entire portion of scone, jam and cream, and drink all of the tea in their cup — so when you book, you're signing up to enjoy every bite and help bring the record home. Dietary adjustments are available on booking.
