Active Cornwall publishes annual Impact Report 2024-25

Active Cornwall have published their annual Impact Report for 2024/25, marking another year of working in partnership to collectively champion the benefits of physical activity and movement, focusing on communities in Cornwall facing the greatest inequalities and barriers to activity.

Important work when there’s up to 50% reduced risk of major illness and early death by meeting Chief Medical Officer minimum guidelines for physical activity, yet currently 52% of children and 31% of adults in Cornwall do not meet those guidelines, especially those from less affluent families or with special educational needs and disability.

As CEO Paul Critchley explains: “We work collaboratively across education, healthcare and community life, carefully focusing resources, sharing our unique insights, influencing policy and building capacity where it’s needed most. Our priority is supporting children, young people, families and older adults to move more, integrate activity into daily life and live well for longer”.

Active Cornwall administer over £3m of funding each year, delivering national initiatives at a local level, and work with more than 400 national, regional and local partners to collectively power positive change. This work engages over 35,000 individuals each year, overcoming barriers to active lifestyles becoming the norm for everyone, where literally every move matters.

One of 42 independent Active Partnerships, a nationwide physical activity and sport network taking a place-based approach to tackling inactivity and reducing inequalities, Active Cornwall’s work is shaped by Sport England’s 10-year vision ‘Uniting the Movement’ which launched in 2021 to transform lives and communities through sport and physical activity.

Paul continues: “Partnership is key to creating such transformational and ambitious impact, and our heartfelt thanks goes to everyone who shares our vision for a Cornwall where inequalities are no longer a barrier to an active life. Our Impact Report is a real celebration of all that we’ve achieved together, and we look forward to continuing this work and unlocking the next exciting phase of Sport England place-based investment for our county.
