Cornwall travellers can fly direct to Tenerife next winter without travelling to airports outside the county
Cornwall Airport Newquay has partnered with award-winning tour operator Murray Travel to offer direct package holidays to Tenerife in March 2027, giving local residents the opportunity to enjoy winter sunshine direct from Cornwall.
The new holidays go on sale at the Royal Cornwall Show on Thursday 4th of June 2026 and will offer two departures from Newquay Airport on Friday 5th March 2027 and Friday 12th March 2027.
The programme has been developed in response to strong demand from local travellers for more holiday destinations available directly from Cornwall. Tenerife and the wider Canary Islands have consistently featured among the most requested winter sun destinations by passengers using the airport.
Operated by Murray Travel, the fully ATOL-protected packages provide customers with the reassurance and financial protection that comes with booking through an established UK tour operator.
The launch builds on the success of previous charter holiday programmes from Cornwall, including Murray Travel's hugely popular Lapland day trip, which sold out in just six days following launch. The operator has built a strong reputation for creating unique travel experiences and is now bringing that expertise to Cornwall's growing leisure travel market.
The new flights mean holidaymakers can avoid the extra time, cost and inconvenience of travelling to airports such as Bristol or Exeter, starting their holiday much closer to home.
Nigel Scott, Commercial Director at Cornwall Airport Newquay, said: "As Cornwall's gateway to the UK, Europe and beyond, strengthening connectivity for our communities remains at the heart of what we do. By partnering with Murray Travel to offer direct flights to Tenerife, we're giving residents another exciting holiday option from their local airport while continuing to support Cornwall's economy and long-term connectivity."
Scott Murray, Director at Murray Travel, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working with Cornwall Airport Newquay to offer these new direct Tenerife departures in March 2027.
The response to our Lapland day trip from Newquay has been incredible, and it has shown us just how much appetite there is locally for convenient, direct flights to exciting destinations.
Tenerife remains one of the UK’s favourite holiday spots, so we’re really pleased to be able to offer this short trial programme and give customers in Cornwall and the surrounding area the chance to fly straight from their local airport.
We see this as a brilliant opportunity to build on the success of Lapland and we’re excited to explore connecting Newquay further in the future.”
Passengers will be able to choose from two departures:
• Friday 5th March 2027
• Friday 12th March 2027
All holidays are fully ATOL protected and available to book exclusively through Murray Travel.
Cornwall Airport Newquay continues to work with airline and travel partners to expand travel opportunities for local communities while supporting Cornwall's economy, tourism sector and long-term connectivity.
The airport has experienced significant international growth in recent years, with international passenger numbers rising from 74,069 in 2022 to more than 203,900 in 2024. In April 2026, international passengers accounted for 66% of total traffic, up from 54% a year earlier, demonstrating the growing importance of international and leisure markets within the airport's network.
