About the role
Working as part of our Highways division (Structures) you will be joining our experienced team to successfully deliver quality projects, maintenance activities and support Cornwall's growth.
You will contribute and help drive our safety-first culture.
The main focus of this role is to work collaboratively with our specialist teams as well as sub-contractors across a diverse range of highway maintenance activities. You will need to build positive working relationships whilst planning, supervising and delivering their work.
Activities can include but are not limited to:
- Oversee multiple teams (gangs) carrying out varied tasks across a specified geographic area, ensuring effective coordination and delivery.
- Plan, lead, and participate in complex manual work that requires advanced technical skills and practical experience.
- Support the development of risk assessments and ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, and operational procedures.
- Actively identify and challenge unsafe working practices, with the authority to stop work when necessary to maintain safety.
- Manage the performance of individual team members, offering support, feedback, and corrective action where required.
- Ensure that all incidents, including near misses, are reported accurately and promptly in line with company procedures.
About you
We are looking for you to bring:
- Full UK driving licence
- Significant technical and practical experience
- Ability to resolve problems and react to changing situations and deadlines
- Relevant NVQ level 2 / equivalent qualification or demonstratable experience
- CSCS registration
- CITB Health & Safety qualification
- Ability to supervise specialist operatives and subcontractors
- Good verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with others
